What is ISO? | What ISO Registration Means For The Garland Customer...
Quality Raw Materials | Quality Products
The International Organization for Standardization was founded in 1946, in Geneva, Switzerland, to create and maintain international standards for the manufacture, testing and quality of products from credit cards to software to quality systems.
Today, the organization is comprised of government, business, and industry representatives from over 100 nations worldwide, and ISO 9001 registration has become the world standard for quality system excellence.
ISO 9001 is the organization's quality standard developed specifically for manufacturing and service companies like The Garland Company. The ISO 9000 family of standards provides a measure by which to judge a company's total involvement in and commitment to a philosophy of continuous improvement and customer satisfaction.
In 1994, The Garland Company, Inc. became the first roofing manufacturer in the United States to become ISO 9000 certified. More recently, we achieved ISO 9001:2008 certification to support our ongoing commitment to continual quality improvement. Specifically, ISO 9001 monitors Garland's ability to consistently meet pre-established standards for quality in the research, production, quality control, and services related to our roofing and flooring products. The end result is quality you can count on in everything that Garland provides to ensure long-term roofing and flooring performance.
At Garland, quality is an attitude that is demonstrated by every employee, not only in manufacturing, but also throughout our operations. Every Garland-manufactured product begins with raw materials of the highest quality. Our product line includes over 200 different products representing various combinations of reinforcement materials, surfacing materials, polymer components, and specific additives such as fire retardants, fibers, and fillers. Through vertical integration, Garland is frequently able to implement the same rigorous quality standards that are applied to our end products, to our raw materials.
When not manufactured through a Garland subsidiary, these raw materials are provided through long-term partnerships with material suppliers who are as committed to quality as we are. With degreed scientists on staff, Garland routinely tests and tracks all shipments to make certain they meet our stringent specifications prior to being incorporated into our manufacturing process. Our process is one that observes rigid standards set within the ISO 9001:2000 Quality Management Systems.
Garland's manufacturing is dedicated to quality--not quantity--production. We were one of the first manufacturing facilities in Cleveland, OH to unionize and that relationship continues to grow even in today's business environment. Our manufacturing operatives include many long-time employees who are able to discern variations in batch consistency even before QC has run its checks.
Garland's roof membrane equipment and many of our mixing and coating systems are proprietary designs developed expressly for the super-high polymer content of our multi-ply roofing systems. Our manufacturing processes are simple but effective. Every batch "recipe" issued by the production control office includes specifications for required quality tests. Once the batch has been mixed, a sample is tested for performance.
