Cold Process Adhesives

Briefly defined, cold-applied systems are waterproofing or roofing applications that utilize a cold adhesive (solvent-based or water-based) in the adherence or fusion of the roof system. These systems were designed primarily to eliminate concerns associated with hot bitumen application by substituting asphalt cutbacks for the hot-mopped bitumen as the interply and surfacing bitumen. Garland's cutting-edge cold process adhesives actually out-perform conventional hot-applied systems, while providing the eco-friendly characteristics that are so critical to hospitals, schools, and other environmentally sensitive applications.

In recent years, the market share of these systems has expanded due to increased environmental regulations of hot-applied systems, new material developments and technology, and an ascent of situations where conventional systems prove impractical. Many schools, hospitals, and office buildings demand the characteristics of a cold-process system.

Weatherking being applied (photo)1. Weatherking

Weatherking is a safe, convenient and tough adhesive, providing building owners with the ultimate in cold-applied roof system performance. Weatherking Adhesive replaces hot-applied bitumen as the interply adhesive used to bond multiple layers of ply sheets or Modified Bitumen cap sheets. A Weatherking high-performance roofing system gives building owners an environmentally smart solution for applications where the fumes and potential hazards of hot applied systems are unacceptable.

With Garland’s cold-applied Weatherking mastic, the roofing system actually increases it level of performance during its first five years of service. As the solvent is gradually released, the Weatherking strengthens its bond with the ply sheets. With Weatherking, you can effectively extend the life of your roof by as much as five years in comparison to hot-applied systems. Please contact your local Garland Representative for specific application guidelines.

System Features

  • Long Term Security from Multi-Ply Construction- The Weatherking system combines the strength and performance of a multi-ply configuration with the durability of an elastomeric roof system.
  • Fire Rated- The Weatherking System is Factory Mutual Class 1A approved
  • Superior Puncture and Abrasion Resistance- A Weatherking system is thicker and stronger than conventional equivalent ply hot systems.

2. Insul-Lock II™
Insul-Lock II™ insulation adhesive is a one-part, easy-to-apply, solvent-free, asphalt-free urethane. It quickly creates a strong bond with a variety of insulations and deck types, and requires no special application equipment. The adhesive's low-rise foam will not displace insulation boards. Please contact your local Garland Representative for specific application guidelines

System Features

  • Contractor friendly
  • High strength bonding
  • Meets or exceeds building code standards for wind uplift

3. Insul-Lock® HR
The Insul-Lock® HR roof insulation adhesive is a versatile, highly elastomeric, foamable adhesive that is designed for use in new construction and recover applications. It contains no solvents, and sets in minutes, ensuring a high-strength, long-term bond. Simple one-step application is quick, clean, and easy, and is compatible with a wide variety of insulations and deck types.

System Features

  • Easy to Install - Installation is quick and easy with one-step technology. Mixing is done through a static mixing tip. Since there is no manual or mechanical mixing, mixing errors are eliminated.
  • Versatile - Provides a high-strength, long-term bond between a variety of insulations and substrates.
  • Saves Time and Money - Allows insulation to be installed much faster than traditional, mechanically fastened options, significantly reducing time and labor costs.
  • No Fasteners - No deck penetration reduces the risk of structural damage and moisture entry, and keeps noise and dust from entering a building. May be installed when a building is in full operation, with no disruption to its occupants.
  • Environmentally Friendly - Solvent-free, VOC-compliant formulation is ideal for use in odor-sensitive environments.
  • High-Rise Foam - Allows for adhesion over many surface irregularities, and is capable of recovering properly prepared gravel surfaces without the use of fasteners.
