Garland's GreenShield™ System

The most critical component of any green roof system is the waterproofing protection. Investigate the long term aging of the waterproofing system and its history of performance. The heart of the Garland GreenShieldTM system is a multi-ply modified bitumen roof system. Garland's modified systems have been performing for the last 25+ years in the harshest environments of North America. In fact, many of our first modified roof systems installed in the 1970's continue to keep facilities watertight. The modified bitumen system of choice is StressPly® EUV. Not only is this material the strongest and most durable membrane available, it also incorporates post consumer and post industrial recycled material into the waterproofing membrane.

Immediately above the roofing membrane is a unique, root-resistant compound that prevents roots from penetrating into the waterproofing below. Next, comes a drainage layer that draws excess moisture away from the roof's surface. Above that, rests a filter layer that prevents soil from clogging the drainage system, while enabling water to penetrate and nurture the plant life on the uppermost surface. A lightweight, specially formulated soil mixture rests immediately above the filtering layer. This soil absorbs and retains water in a controlled manner to nourish the plant life. The plantings are selected based on the climate and owner's desired appearance. Garland's staff of horticulturists will assist you in selecting the right plants for your project
