Garland continues to invest heavily in research and development to enhance the features of its modified membranes. By developing unique combinations of polymers, such as SBS, SIS, and SEBS, we have been continuously extending the service life of our modified bitumen systems. Today, Garland offers the strongest, toughest membranes available. The combination of superior polymers and high-strength reinforcement ensures customers of optimum life-cycle return on their capital roofing investment.
Garland Asphalt-Based Modified Bitumen Systems:
Our Millennium roofing membranes are advanced, polymer-modified coal tar membranes. They are primarily used in multi-ply modified bitumen roofing systems with less than ¼” slope. Millennium membranes are a combination of polyester and fiberglass reinforcements that have been encapsulated in a polymer-modified coal tar compound for enhanced performance.
The Millennium multi-ply polymer-modified coal tar system has been field proven to resist moisture, natural aging, chemicals, fats, salts, and ultraviolet (UV) degradation, while providing exceptional elongation characteristics and flexibility at cold temperatures. It can be hot-applied or cold-applied, or installed using coal tar or modified adhesives such as Garland Black‑Knight®/Black‑Stallion® or Green-Lock® Modified Adhesive. Optional mineral surfacing is available for applications that require the waterproofing protection of coal tar, but that cannot withstand the added weight of a gravel surface.
The Garland family of 2-Ply modified bitumen roofing solutions combines the waterproofing integrity of SBS (Styrene-Butadiene-Styrene) technology with the labor-saving design flexibility of a simplified base/cap system. These versatile systems substitute quality-controlled factory assembly for traditional field assembly, significantly reducing labor and material costs. The Garland 2-Ply family includes cap/base sheet combinations that can be hot-applied, cold-applied, torch-applied, or self-adhered, and can be configured with UV-resistant mineral, smooth, or gravel surfacing. There is even a VOC-free cold-applied solution for odor-sensitive applications.

Underlayments are membranes designed to provide additional protection and/or waterproofing under a variety of roofing systems.
Modified bituminous membranes are comprised mainly of two equally important components the polymer modified coating and the reinforcement. The type of reinforcement employed and the blend of the bituminous coating are critical to the success of the roof system. There are two materials generally used by the industry to reinforce modified membranes fiberglass and polyester or a combination of the two.
Garland offers a range of underlayments and reinforcements offering various strength performance characteristics dependent on the roofing project. Our research and development team continually strives for excellence through technological advancements and extensive research and development.

Hot-applied systems typically use an asphalt-based or coal-tar-based modified adhesive to adhere a built-up roof system, and remain a tried-and-proven method for installing modified bitumen roof systems. Coal-tar-based modified adhesives can be used as an interply with any built-up roofing system, and is ideally suited for Millennium coal tar high-performance systems. The adhesive offers exceptional waterproofing and chemical resistance, and low-temperature flexibility and elongation characteristics that are superior to conventional coal tar.
Cold-applied systems are waterproofing or roofing applications that use a cold adhesive (solvent-based, water-based, coal-tar-based) or urethane insulation adhesive in the adherence or fusion of the roof system. Such systems are designed primarily to eliminate concerns associated with hot bitumen application. Garland's cutting-edge cold-process adhesives actually out-perform conventional hot-applied systems, while providing the eco-friendly characteristics that are so critical to hospitals, schools, and other environmentally sensitive applications. The Insul‑Lock family of urethane insulation adhesives are one-part, easy-to-apply, solvent-free, asphalt-free urethane. It quickly creates a strong bond with a variety of insulations and deck types, and requires no special application equipment. The adhesive's low-rise foam will not displace insulation boards.

Mastics are trowel-grade adhesives designed for installing flashings or sealing seams, and repairing blisters. Mastics adhere easily to metal, stucco and most commonly used on modified bitumen and built-up roofs. Mastics can be used to patch damage or to seal roof-to-wall connections and plumbing vent penetrations with ease. Garland offers several different formulations that allow you choices for any situation.
