At Garland®, Sustainable Design is not a marketing campaign but rather a philosophy of how we design our products and operate our company. The Garland Company has a long history of manufacturing and marketing sustainable roofing solutions long before the term "Sustainable Design" came into vogue. For example, Garland introduced Weatherking® in 1981. This VOC compliant cold process roof system adhesive eliminates the need for kettles and torches. Garland purchased the R-Mer Lite® insulated steel roofing system in 1991. This system is one of the few steel roofing systems to qualify for the ENERGY STAR®*. In addition, R-Mer Lite® is 100% recyclable at the end of its useful life. In 1995, Garland won the prestigious Plant Engineering Product of the Year Award for incorporating post-consumer recycled tires into its modified bitumen roof systems. In the late 1990's, Garland introduced the first green roofing system, GreenShield, that was designed specifically for the diverse climates of North America. Finally, Garland has been a charter member of many organizations committed to sustainable roofing solutions such as the EPA's Energy Star Program and the Green Roofs for Healthy Cities Coalition.
One of the most important and often most overlooked aspects of Sustainable Design is long term performance. All Garland systems are engineered, manufactured, designed, specified and installed with the goal of reaching 30+ years of service life. With proper design, installation and routine maintenance, this is a very attainable goal for most Garland roofing systems. In an age when many roofs fail within ten years, Garland systems provide alternatives for those customers who are truly committed to long-term performance and Sustainable Design. Garland's Sustainable Systems include:
Green Roofs
ENERGY STAR®*/Cool Roofs
Recycled/Recycleable Systems
Solar Roof Systems
SolarGrid Systems
Sustainable Links
