OTHER HELPFUL TIPS
Product Storage
Schedule product deliveries as close to the project start date as possible to avoid prolonged exposure to the elements. Keep products stored at or near room temperature (70°F/21°C).
Heating
Some products may require heating before application to ensure proper viscosity or to help with membrane pliability. Carefully review product guidelines to assure proper heating takes place without risk of damage to the product.
Surface Preparation
It is critical the substrate is dry prior to product application. Keep an eye on the dew point temperature as dew will form on the roof surface during cold mornings.
Substrate Surface Temperature
Make sure the substrate surface temperature is in the proper range for application. Use darker, primed cover boards and smooth, slag surface membranes to aid in the natural warming of the substrate by the sun prior to the application of the cap sheet or surfacing.
Cure Times
Account for longer cure times in cooler temperatures.
Avoid Phase Roofing
Phase roofing should be avoided in cold weather applications. Schedule the installation so there are no partially installed roof sections at the end of each day.
