Garla-Shield is a glass-fibered asphalt emulsion designed to protect and prolong the life of an existing roof surface. This weather cote contains high solids content asphalt, specially selected plasticizers, long-strand glass fiber reinforcement, additional fiber reinforcement, and a tightening agent to prevent damage from moisture while smoothing out non-uniform roof surfaces.

Method	Description
Brush	The roof surface should be clean and free of dust. All weak spots, breaks or blisters should be repaired. The prepared surface must be primed with Garla-Prime at .5 gal/100 sq. ft. (.20 l/m2). Garla-Shield is ready for immediate brush application from the container. Material should be uniformly mixed, free of lumps and shall not show any settling, livering or show deterioration in the original sealed container. After slight stirring, material shall be smooth and uniform. Begin application at the low edge of the roofing surface. Apply Garla-Shield emulsion over the entire primed roof surface at a rate of 5 gal/100 sq. ft. (2.04 l/m2) for smooth or at 6 gal/100 sq. ft. (2.45 l/m2) with polyester. A two coat application is recommended at a rate of 2.5 gal/100 sq. ft.(1.02 l/m2) per coat with smooth and 3 gal/100 sq. ft. (1.22 l/m2) when using polyester. The two coats can be applied simultaneously with an overlapping application technique. Garla-Shield forms a thick blanket of protection over an existing roof mat. The Garla-Shield weathercoat resists ultraviolet radiation, oxidation, and attack by the elements to prolong the life of the existing roof surface. Additionally, Garla-Shield is UL Class “A” listed over combustible decks.
